< Plot Writing

Plot submission for MF4 is now open.

Deadlines

Please submit New Overviews by next Monday – 1/09/2025 Midday.

Please submit Encounters by Monday – 8/09/2025 Midday.

The result of extensive meetings with Nations has resulted in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HkfABH96fIsIEmbOEEOCR8ogRJ5q-22LShrvKkR1ZUc/edit?usp=sharing

This is the ongoing 26ish main plotlines that are happening in the world. Please read them over - I have tagged each plotline with the teams who are most likely to be interested into this plot, so scan for those if it makes things easier for you! Guilds may be particularly interested in the new “Realm Plot” section, as we have identified common themes in the three realms (banditry/organised crime/unstable magic rifts) where encounters can easily be attached to.

We are VERY keen to get collaborative guild/nation encounters going from MF1 onwards so have broken down the available slots with the skirmish crew as follows:

  • 9 x Fields of Fate, 1 per nation
  • 9 x big fights (potentially ran with aid of the Adventurers Guild) 1 per nation
  • 9 x big “other” fight/mission (potentially stealth mission ran with the aid of the THG or CoD), 1 per nation
  • 9 x dungeon slots, 1 per nation It’s helpful if nation plot writers decide amongst themselves what slots can be used for what parts of the pool of nation plot and submit encounters accordingly.
  • 11 x other dungeon slots*
  • 6x Treasure Hunters Guild
  • 5x Split between other Guilds

13 x other unallocated slots in the woods or field* *some of these numbers might change as we allocated resources and wiggle things around other time sensitive game mechanics.

Campaign Plot

Haven will be in Morvalis this event.

Skirmish Writing

If you are planning to write a skirmish, here is an overview of the changes we're making to ensure Skirmishes are delivered on schedule and without burning out our skirmish crew for MF4!

Schedule in place before plot submission

We've got our monster slot schedule and a schedule of when various enemy types will be available. We will be keeping to this schedule and so your plot is more likely to be approved if it has a monster type that has higher availability. We will also be keeping to a schedule that keeps skirmish teams in the same locations, so plots that are flexible on location will also be favoured.

There is a small amount of availability for continuing plot encounters outside this structure (eg Water realm monsters for the god patronage plot) but we may reject encounters like this as the availability is very limited.

Night fights

We have less lighting on this site and limited space for night fights.

More thorough plot review and encounter sheets

We will be fully pre-planning skirmishes with player, skirmish crew and estimated player monster numbers, and full monster stats; if you don't feel confident setting these yourselves, don't worry, we'll help you through it during plot review, part of which is a review by the skirmish captains and lead to make sure it's feasible on their end and stat blocks are written and ready for every type of enemy.

The idea behind this is everything should be available for the skirmish team to know their event schedule before the event.

Time limits / Start times for encounters

All encounters will have a strict timer, generally half an hour unless otherwise stated. Encounters will also have a set start time window, a quarter hour to half hour into the hour slot they are set in.

The gaps this leaves around half hour encounters in hour-long slots should give us time to get player monsters briefed, kitted and moved into place, and time to unset the previous encounter, deal with any player incidents, re-brief and have a quick drink break before the next encounter, as well as giving Nation Support certainty on when players will be required.

Obviously in some circumstances we'll have to move these, but that should be much rarer and therefore easier to communicate.

Rifts / Portals

Still a work in progress – rules for when player characters can enter and leave the fields which will be enforced – stragglers may be turned away.

No Surprise / Extra Encounters

We will not be running any extra bonus encounters this time – we will be looking at skirmish encounters at encounter sheet close time and will pick a few people to write extra encounters if necessary at that point.

Please do not make any encounters that may or may not run – it's almost as disruptive to suddenly not have an encounter as it is to have an extra encounter to fit in!

Incursion discussion ongoing

Please write any incursion in such a way that it can be changed to a nearby field encounter if necessary. We can't guarantee we can make incursions safe to run on the new site for MF4 due to the tight turn around.
