The Working Hewers Club now stands complete; more than a meeting hall, it has become a place of fellowship, where those who carve the mountain may set aside their tools, warm themselves beside the fire, and strengthen the bonds that unite them. Fashioned directly from the surrounding bedrock, the building appears as though it has always belonged within the caverns. Low, broad, and solidly built, its walls have been carefully hewn from the very stone beneath its foundations before being finished with shimmering golden grout that catches the light of nearby lanterns. The result is a hall that balances practicality with quiet pride, reflecting the craftsmanship of those who built it.
At its centre burns the great hearth from which the hall takes its name. The ever-burning fire fills the chamber with warmth, drawing Hewers together at the end of each day's labour. Around its glow, stories are shared, advice is offered, grievances are aired, and friendships are strengthened. It is here that discussions concerning the future of the Hewers take place, and where representatives may be chosen to speak on their behalf when the need arises.
Along one side of the hall, a modest kitchen keeps fresh coffee brewing, ale flowing, and trays of biscuits ready for those returning from the mines. Nearby washing facilities provide a welcome chance to clean away the dust of the tunnels before gathering with companions, while a dedicated office serves as the administrative heart of the club, maintaining records and providing a space to organise the affairs of the Hewers.
Mounted proudly above the great hearth hangs the golden emblem of the Hewers, catching the firelight and standing as a symbol of shared labour, mutual respect, and enduring solidarity. Though the hall is often filled with conversation and laughter, it remains a place of dignity and purpose, a sanctuary where every Hewer is welcomed as an equal.
