The Lonely Shack now stands upon the endless stretches of the Great Plains, positioned at the crossroads where Syradonia, Morvalis, and the Wonder meet. Funded as a vital wayhouse for those crossing the open wilds, it provides a place of rest, safety, and shelter for merchants, pilgrims, wanderers, and emissaries travelling between realms.
Built upon sturdy stone foundations with timber walls and a broad thatched roof designed to withstand the harsh plains winds, the Shack embodies simplicity, reliability, and welcome. Its great oak double doors, reinforced with iron bindings, remain open to travellers in times of peace, serving as a symbol of neutrality and hospitality at the edge of civilisation.
A ring of windows fills the communal areas with natural light during the day, while lantern sconces provide warmth and guidance through the long evenings. Within, the central hearth-hall forms the heart of the building, where travellers gather around trestle tables to share meals, exchange stories, and trade news from distant roads. Maps of the surrounding territories line the walls, preserving knowledge of the lands beyond.
The Shack contains eight sleeping chambers, each furnished with two sturdy beds to accommodate up to sixteen travellers at a time. Woven reed mats line the floors, while simple furnishings in earthy tones reflect the surrounding plains and the humble nature of the refuge.
Outside, wooden paddocks and secure stables provide shelter for mounts, wagons, and beasts of burden, while a small bathhouse offers weary travellers the chance to recover after long journeys. These facilities ensure that both people and animals can rest safely away from the dangers of the wilderness.
With its completion, the Lonely Shack has become more than a roadside shelter. It stands as a meeting point between distant lands, a place where strangers become companions and where the glow of a shared hearth reminds all who pass through that even the longest roads need places of refuge.
