Where the Forgotten Are Kept Safe and the Lost Are Given Shape Again

In Revasso, Portavas, where the echoes of conflict still linger along the coastline, the Orphanage Di ’Hubris is proposed as a sanctuary for children left without families due to the ravages of war. It stands not as a place of sorrow, but as a deliberate structure of safety, continuity, and structured care.

The building would be primarily constructed from wood, reinforced with stone where structural integrity demands permanence. At its core, its build plan includes a central courtyard, an open, secure space designed to provide light, air, and a sense of calm enclosure within the protective walls of the orphanage. This courtyard functions as both gathering space and emotional centre, offering children a shared environment for rest and interaction.

The interior is organised across two primary floors. The first floor houses the children’s dormitories, divided into five rooms, each accommodating up to ten children. Each dormitory is assigned a dedicated staff member to ensure consistent supervision, care, and emotional stability. The second floor is reserved for staff accommodation and operational oversight, ensuring those responsible for care remain close and attentive.

Facilities within the orphanage are planned to include a communal kitchen, bathing rooms, a medical office staffed by nurses, and general storage areas for supplies. Education is a core function of the institution, supported by an on-site library intended to provide both structured learning and personal exploration of knowledge. At the administrative heart of the orphanage would lie the head office, known as Amaro’s Room, named in honour of Amano D’Hubris. This space serves as the centre of organisation, record-keeping, and guardianship oversight.

Throughout the orphanage, subtle but consistent dedications to the family deity, The Shadow, will be present. These take the form of symbolic imagery such as locks, webs, and cloaks, woven into the architecture, decor, and physical effigies placed within shared spaces. These symbols are intended to represent protection, secrecy, and care, framing the orphanage not only as a civic institution but as one aligned with familial spiritual identity.

Each child will be provided with a personal lockbox, symbolically tied to The Shadow, intended for the safekeeping of personal belongings and cherished items. This serves both practical and symbolic purposes, reinforcing a sense of ownership, identity, and trust within the institution.

The Orphanage Di ’Hubris is ultimately designed as more than a refuge. It is a structured environment of recovery and growth where children affected by war are given not only shelter, but education, stability, and the foundations of a future beyond loss.
