Shhh!
What? oh. that's the worst kept secret in Hammerstadt.

This project asks you to imagine: beneath the streets of Corvolis, tucked behind an unmarked iron door and down a flight of narrow stone steps, where a private laboratory and surgical facility dedicated to the study and treatment of Corruption. Known as Dr Madaline Walters Haboratory, the facility would operate quietly, without a guild banner or grand sign, providing treatment to those afflicted by Corruption when conventional remedies have failed.

The Haboratory would contain a ward of twelve individual cells for patients undergoing treatment and observation. Each cell would be furnished with a metal-framed bed, a standalone sink and toilet, and a metal door fitted with an observation window. The walls would remain deliberately bare, while tiled floors and simple rugs would provide a degree of comfort without compromising the clinical nature of the facility. Alongside the ward would be a fully equipped laboratory and operation theatre, allowing the doctor to conduct both medical procedures and experimental treatments within the same facility.

Beyond the laboratory, the facility would incorporate the doctor's own private rooms, consisting of a comfortably furnished living space and bedroom, with a staircase leading upward to the dwelling situated above the entrance. This would allow Dr Walters to remain close to her patients and experiments while maintaining a private residence separate from the ward itself.

The central purpose of the Haboratory would be to investigate whether Corruption can be physically removed from the body. While the accepted wisdom considers Corruption a spiritual affliction beyond the reach of ordinary medicine, Dr Walters intends to investigate whether there is instead a tangible mechanism that can be understood, treated, and potentially reversed. She carries a single point of Corruption herself, giving her a personal connection to the condition and a willingness to investigate it in ways that others may consider too dangerous.

Patients would be accepted into the facility for experimental treatment, either willingly seeking a possible cure or being brought to the Haboratory after conventional remedies have failed. In exchange for their consent to treatment and study, they would receive shelter, medical care, and the possibility that their participation may contribute towards a future method of treating Corruption.

The proposed research would encompass a wide range of approaches, from conventional surgery to more experimental procedures. These may include the removal of corrupted tissue, amputation of affected limbs, and examination or removal of organs believed to have been compromised. Alongside surgical methods, the laboratory would be used to develop and test crude medicines, alchemical compounds, purges, and injections intended to draw Corruption from the body. Every treatment, symptom, failure, and unexpected result would be carefully documented.

The study would not end with those who fail to survive treatment. Where permitted, deceased patients would provide further opportunities for autopsy, with organs, blood, corrupted tissue, and bones studied in an attempt to identify physical differences between the corrupted and the healthy. Through this continued research, Dr Walters hopes to establish whether Corruption has a physical component that can be isolated and understood, and whether something so often regarded as untouchable by mundane medicine can ultimately be removed.
