That There magic beanstalk Patch
More actions

Behind Phoenix Rest, where the meadows begin to rise gently toward the Embermount, a freshly worked patch of volcanic earth has been claimed for a rather unusual allotment. The soil is dark, rich and almost suspiciously fertile, and from its centre rises a young beanstalk, already twisting eagerly upwards. Two sides of the plot are enclosed by wooden trellises, with a mesh canopy spanning between them to guide the growing plant skyward. Beneath this future leafy canopy are several benches, positioned to make the most of the shade once the beans mature, creating what appears to be the beginnings of a small beer garden tucked behind the tavern. Around the base of the stalk, are a neat row of carrots, the only other crop permitted near the beans so that nothing might grow tall enough to compete with them.
A small plaque is mounted, to provide context to those who visit. "Definitely magical beans traded for a magic bronze cow Handsel. Knowing full well I'm exceptionally talented at killing plants, please do enjoy the water-magic sprinklers installed throughout the allotment to ensure the beans receive a reliable supply of water. An Urdevani magic teleporting rock has also been placed amongst the beds."
Whether this constitutes sound agricultural practice remains debatable, but the Embermount's fertile soil has certainly given the experiment an enthusiastic start.
At least it fits surprisingly well amongst Phoenix Rest's fertile meadows and thriving market culture.
